How fast will a fictitious 8-bit micro run in an FPGA?

I’m guessing the original poster needs a refresh on digital design and/or computer architecture? It would be interesting to play around with an 8-bit SIMD or multicore or SoC in a FPGA; the comment section has some pretty interesting links.
